More and more, I see students unable to cope with test anxiety.
It is tragic because many of these students perform fine under more relaxed circumstances. When parents ask me how their kids can cope with test anxiety, I tell them that strategies vary from student to student. Some students respond well to relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing and guided imagery, but others require stern guidance. As much as I wish there were a one-size-fits-all approach, how students deal with anxiety will be as varied as how they internalize it. One approach that I am certain will not help is the muscle-through-it approach.
