As an English teacher, I enjoy being able to help developing young writers find their voices and try to find places to publish their work. Since publishing is a vital part of the writing process and I work with some talented, young writers, I wanted to find a place where those developing young writers could publish their work. I would love to see these young writers earn the recognition they deserve. Since I work with a particularly gifted writer who lives in China, I focused on finding sites accessible to her as well as to my local students. Here are a few resources I have found.
Communities & Contests for Developing Young Writers
- Write the World – a global community, where young writers can publish their work and refine their craft through a regular writing routine, an attention to revision, and access to quality feedback. It offers monthly competitions for young writers.
- Booksie – another publishing community for developing young writers of all ages — check out the short story contest, deadline is 2/28/18
- Winning Writers finds and creates quality resources for poets and writers. (all ages) This site has several excellent lists, including a list of less reputable publishing opportunities.
- The Leyla Beban Young Authors Foundation – sponsors an annual 1000 word contest — next deadline coming up 2/1/18!
