Choosing the Right Test
When it comes to SAT & ACT prep, performing well starts with making the right decision about which test to focus on.
The “right” test is not a matter of what teachers, peers, or even what parents think. It has everything to do with which test aligns better with a student’s strengths and style.
We start by providing each student with the option to take full length SAT & ACT assessments. This way, the students get a feel for the tests, and we decide empirically which test will be a better fit for each student. We, of course, also bring in the students and parents for a consultation to discuss the test results and plan next steps.
Every Student Is Different
Our SAT & ACT prep instructors have a wide range of experience working with students of all levels to boost test scores and build confidence.
Every student is different, with different strengths, needs, and learning styles. That’s why, unlike other SAT & ACT prep programs, we don’t offer a “one size fits all” workbook. Rather, we tailor our approach and hand pick learning materials based on each student’s needs and goals.
We recommend that students start thinking about the SAT & ACT in the summer before their junior years of high school. Many students take the tests for the first time in the spring of their junior years, so it makes sense for them to start preparing the previous fall. However, colleges accept scores from the fall of a student’s senior year as well, so for many students, preparing in the spring of 11th grade or the summer before 12th grade can also make sense.
A Personalized Learning Experience
To accelerate learning and accommodate students’ busy schedules, most of our test prep occurs on an individual, one-on-one basis. We also offer semi-private tutoring for students who have a study partner in mind. We also offer small group SAT classes at different times throughout the year.
Free Initial Assessment & Flexible Pricing
Our SAT & ACT Prep Programs begin with complementary initial assessments, available for SAT & ACT, so that we can identify expectations and set logical goals for each student.
Following the initial assessment, we offer an optional, complementary consultation to review the results. During this consultation, we will work with the students and parents to make a testing and prep plan that makes sense with the student’s goals and your family’s budget.
Depending on the needs and goals of each student, these plans can flexibly increase or decrease in hours, ensuring parents pay for only the ideal amount of support from us, no more and no less!
The Right Number of Sessions
The number of sessions a student needs depends on the initial assessment results, improvement goals, and other factors.
Students who show the most dramatic improvements have been attending sessions, completing assignments outside of the sessions, and using the strategies we teach them.
It’s impossible to predict how many sessions a student will need, but we offer and recommend taking practice assessments at regular intervals to monitor progress and drive instruction.
All of our tutors are experienced professionals who take our commitment to students seriously. You may meet with one or two different tutors for your test prep, but behind the scenes, our team is constantly sharing ideas as to how we can support each student’s needs to ensure the greatest success.
This approach allows us to tailor our structure, pace, and style of instruction entirely to the needs of our students — all while scheduling around the busy schedule of a high school student.
By relying on a variety of integrated teaching methods during SAT/ACT test prep sessions, our tutors can accommodate each student’s individual learning style.
We Go the Extra Mile
We understand that our students and their parents have busy schedules that don’t always fit neatly into a 9-5 time block.
That’s why we work with students seven days a week — especially on nights, weekends, and (most) holidays.
Our test-prep tutoring rate starts at $85/hour.
Please note that our appointments have a 24-hour cancellation policy. We charge a $35 fee for any late cancellations in order to pay our tutors for their time.

“I have two children who have used Alpha College Prep. We were extremely pleased with results. We have one in College now and one who is starting College in August. Alpha College Prep helped us through the College application process and prepping for SAT testing. Could not have gone through this stressful process without their help!” – Toni F.
